they should have it bu the time they loose their puppy fur and start getting their adult fur. that should start from 6-10 months. there is one other thing i would like to mention. not all dogs get thick wavey fur. check out the parents? do they both have it? if not there is a chance your chi wont have the fur you want her to have, thats just the way the cookie crumbles! love your chi for they way they are!

Around 10 - 12 months old, you can give him supplement for hair and coat.

Give him chicken liver sometimes, mixed in his diet. It's good for the coat.
