OK: your hair is wet. put all the product in it. dry it on high heat but low setting-it may take a little longer but it really works. i have the same kind of hair. Then dry it scrunching it, once it starts to get a little frizzy, spray hairspray (aersol) underneath and throughout your whole head-which the hairspray will make your hair dry faster. i always dry my hair upside down then side to side then front. put more gel than mousse in your hair. it will give you a better "scrunched" look.

scrunching doesn't work very well on thick hair if it's even the slightest bit frizzy. try putting in a smoothing/defrizzing product (or that mousse you've got) and braiding it before you go to bed. there are different braids you can try. you could french braid it, do braided pigtails, or rope it (google rope braid). in the morning, don't brush it, just run your fingers through.

Put a lot of conditioner in your hair while washing it, and brush out all the knots. Then, flip your head upside down and use mouse or gel (i recommend aussie. it has a leave-in conditioner/ mousse product) to scrunch it toward your head. Then blow dry it while it is all messy.

Best of luck.

my sister is a pro at this...don't comb your hair when you get out of the shower, put lots of gel in it and let the gel dry, blow dry on low heat while head is upside down, stop, hairspray and scrunch at the same time, wait for that to dry, blow dry some more, repeat gel and hairspray once more..it's a lot of work but this gets it perfect!
